Dear friend,

Three payments arrived this week and I want to tell you about them before I lose the thread. That's what today's letter is doing. I'm giving you the arithmetic of one plain week.

On Monday the ring light I returned in August refunded me $47. I'd forgotten the return. The email sat at 6:12am under a subject line I almost deleted. On Wednesday a client I'd given up on sent $340 through Venmo at 11:04pm with the note "sorry for the wait." On Thursday my sister paid me back the $85 from the July dinner.

That is $472. I did the math on the back of a Target receipt. It took me seventy seconds.

None of these were earnings. None of these were new work. All three were money that had already left me — the ring light I bought on a tired Tuesday, the client who owed me, the sister I stopped asking about. The money came back on its own schedule, not mine.

So today's letter is simple. You are allowed to count the money that comes back the same way you count the money that comes in. It is the same money.

WHAT CAME BACK
THIS WEEK

What came back this week was not what I expected. I thought the $340 would be the headline. It was not. The headline was the $47 from the ring light I'd forgotten.

I put the ring light in the box at the post office on August 14th. I was mad at it. The light flickered when I opened Lightroom on my phone and the Reel I'd shot with it got 83 views. I asked for the refund, printed the label, and dropped it off. Then I stopped thinking about it for eighty-four days.

The money did not stop. It moved through whatever a return moves through. On a Monday morning in November it sat in my inbox at 6:12am, waiting for me to notice.

That is the whole lesson from one receipt. Money you've written off has not written itself off. It is still moving. It is working through its own set of days, and it finds you when it finds you.

WHAT I STOPPED
CHASING

I stopped chasing the client in September. She owed me $340 for a batch of Canva templates I'd finished in June. I sent four emails and two texts over six weeks. None of them worked. I took her name off my tracker on September 21st and wrote off the money in a document called "write-offs 2026."

Then on Wednesday at 11:04pm, four months later, her Venmo came through with the note "Sorry for the wait. Bless you." I sat on the edge of my bed and read the note three times, and then I put the phone down and did not look at it again that night.

The Build cards below are about this: I quit chasing, the money did not quit moving. The chase and the arrival were on separate clocks the whole time. Here is what to burn and what to keep.

If I stop chasing it, I'll lose it for good.
If I stop chasing it, I free the money to come back on its own path.

Money that leaves is gone.
Money that leaves is still moving, and some of it is on its way back.

I have to earn every dollar twice to feel safe.
I have to let the dollars I earned once stay earned, so new ones have room to arrive.
THE VAULT
Twelve lines for today. Read them slowly.
01I count every dollar that comes back.
02I let old money return on its schedule.
03I am allowed to receive without chasing. MOST TAKEN
04I keep a quiet list of what arrived.
05I do the math out loud.
06I open the email I almost deleted.
07I say thank you to the refund.
08I trust money to find me twice.
09I am done earning the same dollar twice.
10I let my sister pay me back.
11I notice the $47 I forgot.
12I keep the door open this week.
WHAT YOU'RE ALLOWED
TO RECEIVE TODAY

I am not setting homework today. That is not what this letter does. The closing is a list of what came back this week, counted the same way I counted the $472 on the back of a Target receipt.

You are allowed to count the money that came back as money that came in. The $47 refund is the same dollars as the $47 you'd earn selling a template tonight. The Venmo from a client who finally paid is the same as a new deposit. The $85 from your sister is not a return, it is income.

Also this. Stop chasing people who owe you and still let their money reach you. The chase and the payment are on different clocks. Chasing is work. Receiving is not.

And this. Keep a list that only counts arrivals. Write the number. Write the date. Write what it was for. Keep the list where you can see it. That is a bookkeeping system. It is also a prayer, in the way that noticing is a prayer.

Open the door. Expect more. Let it find you.

Keep the door open,

MONEY MAGNET

P.S. The ring light is sitting on my counter. I kept the second one I ordered. It flickered once last night when I opened Lightroom, and I did not return it. I think I am going to keep letting it flicker for a while.

Wide Awake At 3 a.m. Again? Read This Before Bed Tonight

You know the feeling.

Your body is exhausted, but the moment your head hits the pillow, your mind switches on.

Tomorrow's to-do list. That awkward conversation from Tuesday. The bill you forgot to pay.

You check the clock. 11:40. Then 1:15. Then 3:02.

And by the time your alarm goes off, it feels like you never really slept at all.

If that sounds familiar, you're far from alone. About one in three adults regularly doesn't get the sleep they need.

But here's what gives me hope: falling asleep isn't only about how tired you are. It's also about how calm your body feels when you lie down.

No pills. No gadgets.

It's simple enough to do right in bed, with the lights already off.

It sounds almost too simple, which is exactly why it's worth two minutes of your time.

P.S. Tonight, when you can't sleep, try this instead of reaching for your phone. At worst, you'll have spent 30 seconds relaxing.
